I sent a package to a China based company and its status has been stuck since January 3rd. What could be happening and what can I do about it?

This is the tracking history:
Parcel No.CJ500978577US tracking result
2015-12-24 12:43:00.0 USA received
2015-12-28 02:38:00.0 arrive USA 芝加哥 Transit Station
2015-12-28 02:38:00.0 leaving 芝加哥
2015-12-28 23:30:00.0 芝加哥 export customs cleared
2016-01-01 01:40:04.0 Guangzhou Transit Station import customs scan
2016-01-03 15:44:49.0 Guangzhou Transit Station import customs cleared (domestic transit )

Other than that my package is no where to be found.

your parcel should have delivery problem. Many china seller gave returning address is not covered by China Post delivery network. You should ask receiver call china post hot line 11185 and pickup the parcel.
