I have two parcels that have been in transit for a month. Can you provide feedback on the following:

LK407730623CN
LK398393925CN

LK398393925CN left Beijing on 22 Nov. LK407730623CN left Zhenzhou on 6 Dec. Neither one has cleared customs in the US yet. I'd hope to see them in early January and mid-January, respectively.

Now is busy season. Many parcels are delayed. Please wait extra one or two more weeks.

It's normal for an item not to update for several weeks after it leaves China. http://track-chinapost.com/?p=514

LS239896575CN left Beijing on 2 Dec. Because of the high volume and holiday season, ePackets seem to be taking much longer than they have in the past, possibly 4-6 weeks. I might expect to see it early to mid January.

You're welcome! Sorry, I wish I had better news...I feel like all forms of shipping are unprecedentedly slow this year.

Shadow, thanks for this helpful info!

just curious... what happens exactly during those 4-6 weeks? Do packages just sit in a queue a warehouse while waiting for airplane cargo space to become available? I can only presume that China post must have some sort logistics "system" in place that handles all the packages that have been sitting there, backlogged and waiting...

Shadow, thanks for this helpful info!

You're quite welcome! :)

The time between the last update from China ("Sent to airline") and the first scan from the destination country can possibly include

  • time spent waiting for transit
  • time actually spent enroute
  • time spent waiting for customs clearance in the destination country
  • time waiting for the postal service of the destination country to process the cleared packages and give them their first scan

When it comes to time spent waiting for cargo space, I presume that once an item shows "sent to airline", the mailbag that it's in has actually been handed over to the airline, so it would be the airline/air freight contractor that warehouses the items until shipping space becomes available. I don't have any insider knowledge of how that system works, so I can't say with 100% certainty, though. :)

If you take a look at this post, you might find it to be helpful when it comes to illuminating how international mail routing works -- in particular, the four "references" links at the bottom.

How does the international mail system work? How is mail routed from one country to another?

Left China on the 5th of December, I think it's likely to show up in USPS tracking sometime in the next two weeks.
