Post Canada Post: Pending Strike/Lockout

Heads-up for folks in Canada: Canada Post workers could go on strike or be locked out as early as July 2nd. The rumour mill says that Canada Post is likely to lock out its workers very soon after the deadline passes.

Now is probably not a good time to order anything via parcel post, registered mail, ePacket, EMS, or anything else that is delivered on this end by Canada Post. Alternatives include the usual roster of international couriers (DHL, Fedex, UPS), or for those fortunate enough to have a US shipping address, sending things there and picking them up instead.

If a labour disruption does occur, any mail already in the system will sit there until it ends...at which point it will take extra time to clear the backlog. This probably means that anything ordered within the 6-8 weeks or so prior to the service disruption won't move 'til it's over.

Just by way of update: Canada Post issued a 72-hour lockout notice to the union this past Monday. This doesn't mean a lockout is a 100% certainty, but it's possible that the last day of mail delivery could be as early as tomorrow, Thu 07 Jul.
