Post EMS No update and conflicting information

I am trying to get a package through EMS China and am having a terrible time dealing with them!

My package EA349157695CN has had no tracking activity in nearly 2 weeks. When contacted by me or the seller we get the response "I don't know what's wrong." or conflicting information. The seller is told "Maybe it is in Korean Customs." and I am told "Maybe it is still in a Guangdong warehouse in a backlog of packages."

Both answers leave me with no helpful information and tell me it could be 3-4 more weeks for it to arrive to me. The shipping times told to the seller were 1 week when it was shipped.

What is going on with this shipping service?

To add it has been "Ready to dispatch" since the Oct 14 (10/14/2018) and there has been no updates in either China or Korea. When called in about this there is no help from either phone service!

The last status of your item shows it ready to leave Guangzhou for Seoul on 14 Oct. From this point, the next update only comes after the parcel arrives in the destination country, clears Customs, and the receiving postal service scans it. In the meantime nobody knows exactly which of these locations the parcel is in.

The one thing we do know for sure, is that your package is taking way longer than usual; average time from China to Korea via EMS is usually 5-10 days.

So there is no new updates for 2 weeks. When Korean customs is called they don't have a record of a package, so it hasn't arrived with them either.

Both EMS services when called give conflicting information (Korean customs from China EMS, backlogged in Guangdong warehouse from Korean EMS) but nobody can tell me WHERE the package is.

Is my package just missing, on a plane for 2 weeks, lost? How can a shipping service not know where the package is after it has been not updated for 2 weeks?

I needed the package for several events over the next week, the first one being tomorrow. Is EMS so unreliable that they can't get something to me in that time and provide no meaningful updates during that time as well.

EMS is the highest priority postal service, but...it's still a postal service. Your items are sent in the same manner other postal items are...just faster. To clarify what I mean, an EMS item goes through a process like this -- just (generally) grouped together only with other EMS items, and having priority over all other mails.

How long will China Post parcel arrive my country? How long will my tracking status be updated?

Your EMS item leaves Guangzhou in a sealed mailbag, which is only opened when it arrives in Korea. Nobody can scan it while it's in transit, so its status can't be updated. And in most countries, the items have to clear Customs before the receiving postal service can scan them. So this is why there's such a long delay, and uncertainty as to position, while the item is going between countries.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

I understand that while it is "in transit" between countries it is sealed in a bag and cannot be scanned. My issue is that it has been 2 weeks of being in transit and when contacted Korean Customs has no record of it.

Korean EMS has said that it is in a warehouse due to a backlog of packages to be sent out and that there is a list of packages ahead of it still (I am told a 2+ week wait for it to arrive). If there is a backlog or "departure port traffic" as the article supplied calls it why isn't that stated by EMS on the website, or before shipping occurs.

WHen contacted they make it sound as if this was a thing that both China and Korea EMS knew about but did not tell the people they were serving about. Both the seller and I told the "normal" average shipping time but if there was as bad port traffic as it appears (2-4 weeks of traffic/backlog) why were we not notified.

Why is it that I have to sign up to a forum to get any information about my package. Calling into anyone in Korea or China EMS and getting any information is like pulling teeth. The people I and the seller have talked to are completely unhelpful.
