In November of 2018 I ordered some merchandise from AliExpress. The tracking number is LT010409894CN. According to tracking information, the package entered the United States through Miami. On January 7 it arrived in my city (Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA). Later the same day, it was sent back to Miami. I went to my local post office to inquire. They didn't know why it was sent back or where it is now. Any idea why it was sent back, and where it could be? This is not the first time such a thing has happened to me with AliExpress purchases.

Can anyone offer an explanation?

USPS.com shows the parcel is still in USA. It seems the parcel is lost. You need contact USPS to find the parcel.

If USPS can not find the parcel, you need open dispute to paypal/aliexpress to get lost parcel refund.
