Here's my tracking number RI482394342CN
and here's what I get when I track

2015-08-29 03:22:42.0 parcel center received
2015-08-29 15:12:57.0 parcel center customs scan
2015-08-29 22:51:12.0 leaving parcel center ，next station Shenzhen center
2015-08-29 23:45:48.0 Shenzhen Transit Station export security scan
2015-08-30 15:39:42.0 Shenzhen Transit Station export customs cleared
2015-09-03 10:46:55.0 Shenzhen Transit Station export security scan
2015-09-03 10:48:21.0 Shenzhen Transit Station export customs cleared

Any idea if its still in China or in transit?

From the last known status, the package does appears to be still in China and yet to get past Bejing airport/customs clearance.

This is pretty much normal. My package which the seller sent from Shenzen on 5th August 2015 reached Beijing only on 29th and is yet to get shipped from there (or to be updated in its status, to India). It's more of a case of Russian roulette when it comes to internal clearance. If you are lucky, your package will get cleared faster within China and get shipped to your country of destination (USA in your case) sooner.
