it has now been about 4 months and the tracking system says "sent to airline" since 19/10/2013. any idea where my parcel is?

If the parcel status stuck in "sent to airline" over 2 months, normally it means the parcel has been lost.

you can ask seller to bring shipping receipt and claim compensation from China Post and you can claim compensation from seller at the same time. http://track-chinapost.com/?p=435
