Hi there,

I've waited 5 days for this to show a change in status, but it has not yet been changed.

Can you please advise if this is a real EMS tracking number or have I been fooled?

I also know it is just after the holiday period - do I have to factor a delay to the EMS tracking number being accepted by the carrier?

The number format is valid, but China Post hasn't received any parcel with this tracking number yet. Once they scan it it's usually updated in the tracking system within 48 hours, probably sooner for EMS.

Maybe your seller is scamming you, but it's very possible that your seller has just delayed shipment. That said, if I paid to ship via EMS, and they waited five days to ship something that they said was in stock, I'd be pretty annoyed, to say the least. Five days is as almost long as many EMS items take to be delivered.
