you can track it in http://track-chinapost.com/startairmail.php, there should be some tracking result.

If tracking result is "Success find: 0 items!", it means the tracking number is invalid. China Post has NOT received this parcel. then you should report fraud to paypal and claim refund.

it was just given today. Will it take sometime to update online or is it really invalid?

Usually three days. A guy comes and picks up the parcels from the seller. It won't register on the system unless some branch scans it.
