Can you please advise:
1) What is meant by "attempt delivery"?
2) What attempt is made to deliver an item? For example - if it is a letter, is it not just put in a letterbox?
3) If delivery is successful only if the letter / parcel is handed over to the recipient, what happens if the recipient won't accept it?
4) What happens to the parcel after each attempt at delivery?

"attempt delivery" means the parcel is going to recipient's address. Unfortunately, many China Post delivery guy is very lazy to update the delivery status. So "attempt delivery" often become the last status you can see no matter the parcel is delivered or failed delivery. It really depends on delivery guy's personal ethic.

If recipient rejected the parcel, some good delivery guy will mark "rejected", however, most delivery guys are lazy and never update any information. So if a parcel is returned or lost, you can hardly know the reason.

If your parcel is an important item, I suggest you use EMS service which is much reliable
