I was given the tracking number March 22. The item was ordered from Amazon and since finding this page about invalid tracking numbers I have done some research and I think I have reason to be concerned about the seller

Normally Amazon seller should be ok. I suggest you contact seller to ship the goods asap. Tell him if you can not get tracking result in next 3 days, you will file complaint to Amazon and downgrade his shop. Normally he will ship the goods immediately after getting your message.

Tracking through Amazon link it shows that on March 22 at 10:29 p.m. "Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit". and that is the last info posted. If this is correct should the parcel have arrived at China Post and more tracking info be available?

"Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit" is what seller told Amazon. You can not trust such message. The only way to verify shipment data is to track the number. If there is no result , it means your seller did not ship the goods yet.
