I ordered something on Amazon in late May and received 84183829087 as my tracking number. Since May 24 the tracking has only said the information has been received.

Does this mean its still at its original location or that it hasn't even been brought in to ship?

I emailed the seller Wednesday but haven't heard back yet. :(

http://track-chinapost.com/startairmail.php shows only info "Electronic Data Received". This means your seller applied a tracking number from china post, but did not actually ship anything to you.

You should open dispute to amazon against fraud shipment.
