Post Sending large packages to Ireland

Good morning,

I am moving from China to Ireland in a few months and wanted to begin shipping boxes to my new home. Hoever; when I went to China Post to inquire, they told me that they can't insure or guarantee the safety of my boxes once they have left China.

How does one send items out of China and know they will arrive safely if the post office cannot guarantee they will arrive safely? Does China Post have a way/agreement with another post company who can continue the insurance?
Is there a better way (and still the same price) to ship my personal items to Ireland?

Frankly speaking, there is no both cheap and reliable way to ship small quantity volume goods from China to oversea. If you want cheap service, China post surface parcel can be the solution, but it is extremely slow (3 to 6 months arrive) and risky (high lost rate and no compensation). If you want fast reliable service, ship the boxes with courier service like DHL or TNT, but they are very very expensive (may cost over 30 euro/kilo).

I suggest you bring the most valuable item with yourself in flight and ship those less valuable and less important item with China Post surface parcel.

There are private companies that will insure parcel shipments, but you would have to investigate their requirements carefully -- I haven't used any of them myself. One of them is InsurePost / Shipsurance: http://www.insurepost.com/
