I have a package that's status has not changed for 10 days...it was sent from usa to China....it says.."Held in customs, Guangzhou ems"....how long will it be held there fore it is released?

you'd better give tracking number, otherwise we can not know what are you talking about.

EP845883427US arrived Guangzhou customs on Nov 4. normally it should be delivered in one week. I believe the parcel might have customs clearance or duty payment problem. Ask receiver call china post hot line 11183 and try to pickup the parcel by himself.
